Just a silly question for fellow comic creators. Let us share how much we have slacked off while working (or not) on our webcomics! While we're at it, let's allow those of us who, in fact, stay ahead of their schedules, brag about it!

One-time stories of scheduling blunders, or lifelong struggles to keep up; as long as it's in good spirits :-)

I, for one, am amongst the ranks of incredible procrastinators. Thanks to a job that stealthily switched me over to working evening shifts, ultimately eliminating what sleep cycle I had, I don't know when to work on ASP and updates seem to happen the day after they're scheduled... I usually don't miss updates... they just kinda happen late... alot. ^_^

My webcomic is actually what I do to slack on my grad school. I slack on my homework by taking time to draw, and I don't pay attention in class cause I'm photoshopping my comic together. I actually make sure I have all my drawings scanned before I go to class, I plan ahead to slack in class. So if I'm ever behind on my comic, it's not because I'm slacking on my comic, it's because I'm not slacking on my schoolwork.

Well my work is in a different city from my home, so Friday night is spent driving home. Saturday I'm taking care of home projects that my wife has saved up for me, and spending a few hours actually talking to her face-to-face, so no drawing there. And Sunday nights are spent driving back to work. Monday nights I'm tired, Tuesdays I start drawing, and by Wednesday I'm thinking, "Since Fridays are no good, I gotta get the drawing finished tonight so I can get all the coloring, lettering, assembly and posting done on Thursday." Thursday nights I don't get much sleep.

I slack only when I'm wanting to do a social or political humor piece, this way it's fresh and relevant. When I'm in the mood to be topical, I won't draw anything until Tuesday for Wednesday release.

I also have to be honest, I rarely have a buffer, if I plan to much in advance and see what's coming, I will dwell on it to much and change it, rearrange it and rewrite it a gazillion times. I usually start drawing the following weeks panel the day after I release my weekly one, but I don't finish it until Monday nights, so I can't over analyze what I've created.

I slack on the X-box....or online waiting for any comments on Baby Train or Good Times. Oh the Slacking. So much of it. So so much.......*tear* Actually I've been trying not to slack off as much but its hard to slack off lately because of all the baby craziness. So essentially, Baby = less slack.

I tell you one thing... I will so happy when this election is over because THAT has totally destroyed my productivity. I can't seem to ever get away from the television when I come home at night. I'm getting way too obsessed with this election - and I don't even care all that much about it.

It's like I'm rubbernecking in traffic... I know I shouldn't look at the accident yet I can't stop myself either. So, I wind up working on the strip at 11:30pm AFTER the debate (and post debate commentary) and then getting to bed at 2:30am only to start the cycle all over again.

Make it stop, Lord. Please... make it stop...

I never get a chance to draw ahead unfortunately, and usually I don't start the comic until the day I post the comic. unfortunately due to the craziness of my life right now I don't actually have a scheduled day to post. I guess it has worked out in my favor quite often.

I have a job that can be a 24/7 kind of thing, so often I get behind because of my work schedual or working so much I've got nothing left, so usually I end up finishing the strip right down to the wire. Haven't missed an update, except it's cause us to create this sort of badly drawn sub-strip of reasons why the regular strip wasn't done...

I get to brag. I'm slightly ahead with my buffer. If I was to quit drawing today I would still be able to update my site six days a week for a year and 1/2,

I did a lot of drawing before I realized I could put it on the web and just stock piled it. It also allows me to stop drawing the daily strips without missing updates to do specials....like the Halloween special TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD I'm doing each week of October along with the normal daily updates. I'm also a night audit clerk at a hotel and get to draw and update on the job during the wee slow night hours.

I fly the comics out by the seat of my pants, unfortunately. I usually look up to find that it's 9:10 PM and I need to be in bed by 10 so I rush out a drawing in ink (no pencil because it shows up as white inder the ink on a B/W scan which takes long to touch up), then I touch it up with the paintbrush tool on MS-Paint (because I keep forgetting to install GIMP or Inkscape), then I copy the B/W into a color image and color it up.

I haven't missed to many updates once I got the hang of it but every now and then I miss one and instead of drawing I make a text pic saying sorry.
On the flip side, I've been know to have a comic done and queued for release by 7:00 PM.

I'm actually generally 1 or 2 strips ahead, but I can't seem to stretch it out farther than that. I haven't missed a date yet in fact. I'd like to build a buffer of 2 weeks, but it's hard. When I get ahead, I use that time to tend to other things, like stuff on the website or ads or whatever. Those things need to be done too, so I guess it all works out in the end.

You just can't blow your deadlines, it's too important IMO.
