Heh!

Here I had just started to get myself situated into my new job as a graphic designer and loving it when I am informed that a deal that was being pursued by the company with a third party fell through. Without that deal, there was no money to keep me on the payroll. Back to the other job then... bleah.

Retail can be a strange place to work. It is getting stranger by the day with the economy as it is. Fortunately the job I had reduced to part-time is being taken back to full-time for me and I am at least employed. I had kept my initial retail job active for just such an occasion as noted above.

Never-the-less, the experience was priceless! For about a month-and-a-half I got to work in an absolutely GREAT environment with an absolutely TERRIFIC team. I was working with a group of computer graphic artists. When the need came up for some artwork that they didn't want to try to redress some clip art for, I volunteered to draw it up. I am not sure, but I think they were expecting the piece to take about a day to do. I had it blued up in about 20 mins and inked in about 30 more. My turn-around time and the results of the work floored them. Because of this, my attitude, and my acceptable performance, they are keeping me on a short leash and hoping to be able to call me back in to work for them in the future. It will just have to be when the sales are stronger and more sustainable.

I got to learn more about Photoshop than I had ever known before and am all the better off for it.

So, although I had to return to retail, it was a good run with positive results.

In the meantime I have also joined up with another brand-new site that it definately in its infancy called Web Cartoonists Society. It is attempting to gather together as much helpful info on drawing webcomics and cartoons as it can by inviting artists and writers to join up (FOR FREE) and participate in the site. I thought I would join up and not only be the first member but maybe try to help out by spreading the word that it is there.

NOW... time to get back to some DRAWING!
